The line graph demonstrates how three different sources: industry, transport, and households, release air pollutants in millions of tonnes in the UK from 1990 to 2005.
Overall, air pollutants from all three sources showed a downward trend throughout the whole period. Industry was the highest figure at the beginning before transport surpassed it by the end, while households remained the lowest.
Industry started at about 6 million tonnes in 1990 and declined gradually to approximately 2 million tonnes by the end of the period. Regarding other sources, households and transport had the same rate (1 million tonnes) in 1990. However, between 1990 and 1996, transport showed a modest rise and then decline to its initial rate. From 1999 to 2005, this source experienced a dramatic growth to around 3 million tonnes, becoming the biggest source of air pollutants.
In comparison, although households started with th similar rate in 1990, it witnessed a slight drop to 0 million tonnes. With regard to total category, it declined gradually from 8 million tonnes to 6 million tones.
