Back in the 1960s, total waste recovery was slightly less than percent recycling which it was 5.6 million tons. Starting to increase gradually up to 16.7 million tons in the 1985 which it has the same rate as percent recycling. After the 1985, there was a sharp incrase and peaked in the 2011 about 86.9 million tons, indicating there’s an increase by 45% from 1960 to 2011.
In Contrast, percent recycling was a bit higher in the 1960 by 6.4%, there is a fluccuation between 1960 and 1985. meeting the same rate as total waste recovery in the 1985. It started to rise up in the 1990s and peaked in 2011 with 34.7% and yet, there was a slight gap with total waste recovery.
overall, back in the 1960s and up to 1985, the amount of percent recycling was higher than total waste recycling . And yet, total waste recycling became more dominant from the 1990s and up to nowdays.
