Overall, the size of the age group between 25-54 was on the top of the graph and kept rising during the whole period. On the contrary, the figure for 0-14 as well as 15-24 saw a downward trend. Additionally, the number of people in the two older age groups remained stable.
In the first place, the percentage of the 25-54 age group contributed to the majority of the population in Iceland as starting at over one-third of total then rocketed to nearly half at the end. Otherwise, the figure for 55-64 with 65 and over showed unchanged data. The percentage of the second oldest age group saw a fluctuation between 10% and approximately 14% from 1990 to 2010. Likewise ,the figure for 65 and over vacillated around 14% all the time.
The percentage of the two youngest age groups in Iceland decreased gradually; however, they accounted for the second and the third most crowded group of people in total in Iceland, respectively. Specifically, the figure for 15-24 fell from about 22% in 1990 to 17% in 2010 while the figure for the youngest age group continuously dipped to just 18% at the end of the period.
