Overall, it can be seen that USA won the highest number of medals throughout all the six consecutive Olympic Games, while Japan won the lowest number of medals in all the years except for 1992 and 2004. China showed an increase in the number of medals won, going from 28 in 1988 to 52 in 1992. However, there was a slight drop from 1992 to 1996 where they won 49 medals. From then on, China went on a consistent increase from the year 2000-2008, winning more medals each Olympic Game. On the other hand, Great Britain saw a decrease from the year 1988 up to 1996. Nevertheless, they slowly increased from the year 2000-2008, going from 28 to 30 to 47.
In conclusion, USA has won the most medals throughout the six Olympic Games, followed by China. It can also be noted that Japan and Great Britain are in closer competition with one another, having had similar number of medals won in most of the years.
