The traffic users in the Netherlands have been growing increasingly in the last 50 years, since 1950. As we can see, there are 4 types of transportation that were reported, which are cars, trains, bicycles, and other public transports. From 1950 to 2000, it is reported that the number of car users increased dramatically, while the number of train, bicycle, and other transport users increased slightly.
From the first 10 years period (1950-1960), the car users increased by 20%. And following 10 years, the number of car users increased rapidly up to 60%. And it kept significantly increased in the next following 10 years, where the car users were reported in 100%. It has increased gradually over 10 years later, where the percentage of the users has been reported around 120%. Until the highest point was reported in 2000, when the car users were reported to be already at 140%.
However, the other transport, including bicycle and train, most likely increased slowly in the last 50 years. But despite the 3 of them, the train users still increased substantially in 20 years, where in the 1970s the train users had been reported around 15%, and kept slowly increasing in the following 20 years. And the highest points were reported around 1990 until 2000, where the percentage was reported already at 20%.
Same happened with bicycle users, but it’s not as popular as bicycles. In the first following 20 years, bicycle users were reported around 15%, but it kept slowly increasing in the following 20 years, until the highest point was reported in 2000, where the bicycle users increased gradually until around 18%. And the last, the other public transport has the slowest increase in the 50 years. As we can see, from the first 20 years period, it was constantly stable.
