In 2000, there had been only two kinds of technology usage, Internet and broadband, with a slim proportion of 30 percent and 5 percent, respectively.
As a comparison, in 2015, six categories of technology have users in UK, and the popularity in all usage forms have risen, especially the internet, which rocketed to a 90 percent usage percentage. Other forms such as social media, smartphone and broadband have also been common to the UK public, with a usage percentage between 69 to 80 percent. However, smartwatch was still rare in 2015, with a tiny 5 percentage share.
In general, there has been significant increases in both the popularity and diversity of technology usage. This is especially true to new portable devices and internet-related services. For example, smartphone possession rate surged 54 percentage points in only 5 years, while social media achieved the leap of 78 percentage points with in 10 years. On the contrary, the development of smartwatch has rather been stable.
