Overall, women spent the most time on doing chores (cooking, cleaning the house and washing up) and reading, while men allocated their time mostly to leisure activities (watching television and surfing the internet) and gardening. Women dedicated the highest proportion of time to cooking, wheres men showed that of watching television. Both genders preferred gardening as the least favored activities.
Regarding several types of chores and reading, women spent the largest amount of time on cooking, accounting for 15 hours, while it was only 8 hours for men. Similarly, women spent more time on washing up than men, with 7 hours comparing to 5 hours respectively. Women (5 hours) allocated more than twice men’s time (2 hours) to cleaning the house. However, both genders spent roughly a similar amount of time on reading, presenting roughly 5 hours each.
As with two categories of leisure activities and gardening, men (14 hours) preferred watching television more than women (12 hours). Surfing the internet showed the widest gap among this group, with men allocating three times as long as the figure of women (4 hours). On the other hand, both genders spent the least amount of time on gardening, representing 2 hours for men and just 1 hour for women.
