The line graph below illustrates the number of individuals engaging in four kinds of sports, including badminton, basketball, tennis, and rugby in a particular region from 1985 to 2005.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is immediately apparent that the number of people who take part in rugby experienced a downward trend over the period shown, while that of tennis witnessed the opposite trend. Another striking feature is that badminton and basketball were the least preferred sports and experienced minor fluctuations over the time frame.
At the beginning of the period, the number of people who played rugby came top of the list, accounting for around 250 participants, followed by tennis at exactly 150. The figure for basketball was lower, with approximately 90 participants, compared to badminton, which represented the lowest number at 50 participants.
In the following years, rugby’s figure fell sharply, dropping by 50 to 200 in 1995, and then plummeting further to reach its lowest point in 2005, with 50 participants. By contrast, the data on tennis rose steadily, surpassing the rugby’s figure in 1995 and reaching the peak of around 240 at the end of the period. Regarding other sports, namely badminton and basketball, after a few fluctuations around 1985 to 2000, the former stood at the lowest point, the same as rugby, while the latter was slightly higher at around 90.
