In brief, the most common sport in 1985 was rugby, yet it declined significantly by the end of the span, while tennis – initially second on the list – saw an upward pattern and topped the list in 2005. A completely different pattern of change was observed in the quantity of people playing basketball and badminton remained virtually the same through the whole timeline.
The number of people who took part in rugby stood at 250, the highest figure in 1985, after which it experienced a marginal decline of 200 people and reached its lowest point of 50 players in 2005. This was in contrast to the figure for tennis, which rose from 150 partakers to 220 and became the most popular sport among people in 2005. Yet the same number of 200 people were engaged in playing both sports in the year 1995.
Unlike these sports, badminton and basketball registered much lower participation rates. To be specific, the figure for basketball and badminton participants remained the same from 1985 to 2005 and accounted for 90 for the former and a mere 50 for the latter, with the slight decline of about 5 people in 1990.
