The line graph illustrates how many people participated in four different types of sports in a region from 1985 to 2005.
Overall, the number of people playing tennis had witnessed a significant growth throughout the period, but decreased in rugby. Additionally, the figure for basketball and badminton remained virtually unchanged. Despite this, in the first year rugby was the most popular sport in the chart but then it was overtaken by tennis and peaked at the same figure as badminton, at the lowest point at the end of the period.
The number of people taking part in rugby reached the highest point of nearly 250, compared to 150 in tennis in 1985. Then the figure for rugby fell to around 200 in 1995 before dropping rapidly to 50 in the year 2005. Meanwhile, there was a considerable increase in tennis to a point of 200 in 1995, which was the same figure for rugby in the same year. By 2005, the number of people playing tennis had continued to go up and peaking at approximately 230.
In 1985, basketball accounted for about 80, then grew gradually to around 100 in 2000 before falling back to 80 in 2005. Similarly, the number of people playing badminton had a small decrease of under 50 in 1990 and then rose back to 50 in 1995 before staying unchanged for the next 10 years.
