Overall, the numbers of visitors was gradually growing throughout the period with only one noticeable drop. Nevertheless, the tendency of the cruise visitors amount was reverse to the visitors staying on island. In total, the amount of island explorers tremendously increased at the end.
Period of 2015-2017 was marked with fluctuations for both the cruise and staying visitors, at the end of the time interval the option of staying on island grew in popularity with almost 1,6 million people choosing this option, while the cruise travel was less preferable, accounting for a mere 0,2 million visitors. Having seen the growth until 2020, the cruise journey faced a gradual rise to around 1,5 million tourists, contrasting with the amount of tourists staying on the island, which didn’t really changed, staying at almost 1,6 million, keeping the leading position.
However, the next time interval experienced both tendencies level out and a further noticeable drop of staying tourists in 2021 to around 1,4 million. Nonetheless, in 2022 option of staying in the island brought its popularity back with a slight increase to around 2,0 million; simultaneously, during above mentioned period the trend of the cruise stays steadily grew, ending up at around 2,0 million. At the end both tendencies leveled out at 2,0 million, with a further development perspective.
Speaking of the total amount of tourists, it experienced the growth throughout all the 2015-2022 period with a slight plunge in 2021 to 2,8 million due to the drop of the amount of tourists, who stay in the island. Afterall, the total ultimate amount of the visitors in 2022 reached 4,0 million, in comparison with the initial one of around 1 million.
