However, Alberta experienced a decrease in the proportion of international students.
To begin with an upward trend, the top three universities with increased student numbers from 2001 to 2006 were British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, which went up by 7, 5, and 5 percentage points respectively. The other universities, including Quebec, Manitoba, Newfoundland & Labrador, and Ontario, experienced a smaller growth of between 3% and 4% over the five-year period.
In contrast, Alberta was the only university facing a downward trend, dropping from nearly 6% in 2001 to approximately 4% at the end of the period.
