The graph illustrates the number of older population in three different countries, Sweden, UK, and USA between the years 1940-2040, expressed in percentages. Overall, a major trend is that there has been an almost increase in the number of elderly with each year passing. Eventhough in the year 1940, Japan had the smallest percentage,%5, compared to remaining two countries , its forecasted old-age population is the highest.
Japan follows a relatively different trend than Sweden and the USA. In forty years, 1940-1980, Japan doubled its elders. Without taking expected value in 2040, after 1980 every twenty year the old Japanese people more than doubled. There has been a quite jump especially from 2000 to 2020, with the highest increase compared to the previous year.
Although being located in different parts of the world, Sweden and the USA show a similar pattern with their elderly. Sweden has a constant growth starting with seven per cent and ending with expected twenty five per cent, in the mean time American people do not illustrate a steady increase. During the years 1980 to 2000, there is a decline in the amount of one per cent, which is neglegible. After that two percent increase is reported.
