The bar chart illustrates the proportion of males aged 16-25 in a country who prefer watching six different sports, with those preferring participating in them.
Overall, it is apparent that the majority of males have a stronger preference for watching sports than taking part in them, with fishing being the only exception. Additionally, while football and horse riding and racing draw the highest proportions of viewers, fishing attract the largest share of participants.
Starting with the two sports having the highest viewers, football and horse riding and racing each command the largest shares of around 45%. However, the proportions of those taking part in them are far lower, with 10% and nearly 18%, respectively.
Regarding the remaining sports, basketball is watched by nearly 38% of males, which is approximately 13% higher than the percentage of those who participate. Rugby shows a similar trend, with 30% watching and 20% taking part, creating a gap of 10%. This gap is narrowed in the figures for badminton, with 29% and 25%, respectively. In contrast, fishing has the reverse pattern: it has the largest share of participants, at half, while only about 13% of males play, recording the largest gap between viewers and players, at approximately 37%.
