The line graph illustrates how much energy was produced from coal in Sweden, France, Denmark, and Germany between 1995 and 2010.
Overall, it can be seen that all four countries experienced a downward trend. Denmark and Germany were the most successful producers of energy but became the least.
There was a dramatic fall in the production of Denmark and Germany. Denmark’s production of energy from coal was 60% in 1995, higher than the other countries. However, production levels dropped sharply to 20% and in 2010 finished at 10%, which was the lowest of that year. Germany, the second largest producer, followed a similar pattern. It began with around 55% and fell to 5%, but then increased to 15%, which was more than Denmark.
In contrast, Sweden and France saw a more slight fall over the period. 35% of energy came from coal in Sweden in 1995 and this proportion declined gradually to 28% in 2010, the highest of the four countries, while the percentage of energy in France was 30% and followed after Sweden.
