The line graph illustrates the changes in the percentage of participation in three different activities- swimming, team sports, and gym activities- in the UK over a 20-year period (1985-2015).
Overall, gym activities experienced a significant increase in the proportion of participants over the period, while the reverse occurred for swimming, which showed a considerable decrease. In addition, team sports maintained dominance despite a brief change at the end of the period. Notably, swimming attracted a significantly higher percentage of individuals compared to other activities at the beginning of the period, while team sports had more participants than other activities at the end of the period.
In 1985, 50% of people took part in swimming. This figure then decreased steadily to 15% in 2010, continuing this downward trend until 2015. In contrast, the percentage of club members participating in gym activities was initially approximately 5% in 1985. It witnessed consistent growth, reaching almost 25% in 2010 and eventually levelled off, remaining stable until 2015.
As for the team sports, the proportion of individuals started at nearly 32% and remained stable until 2000. This figure began to increase sligtly, rising to 40% in 2010 and eventually returned to its original point in 2015.
