The bar charts compare the export volumes of four categories of citrus fruits, namely oranges, lemons, grapefruits and other types of citrus fruits from the top three exporting countries, measured by thousand tonnes in 2010.
Overall, oranges were by far widely exported, while grapefruits recorded the lowest figure. In terms of countries, South Africa and Turkey were the dominant exporters in their respective categories, whereas Mexico led significantly in the “other types of citrus fruits” group.
Regarding oranges figures, South Africa was the leading exporter, with approximately 1 million tonnes. Egypt ranked second at around 900 thousand tonnes, followed by the United States, exporting about 700 thousand tonnes. In the lemons chart, Turkey, where lemons were exported primarily to other nations, accounted for 500 thousand tonnes. Mexico and Argentina were slightly lower, at roughly 450 and 250 thousand tonnes respectively.
Looking at the grapefruits, South Africa and the United States saw the same figures at nearly 250 thousand tonnes, topping the list of this fruit. A bit lower at around 175 thousand tonnes can be witnessed in Turkey. Notably, Mexico was the dominant position in the “other types” group, with the figure at 450 thousand tonnes. In contrast, the United States and Israel showed no interest in exporting.
