The charts illustrate the amount of spending on crops protection per months and the sources of damages (floods, insects and fires) inflicted to crops, categorized by three regions (Australia, Europe and Africa) in 2005.
Overall, the dominant region in its investment on protecting crops differs between Australia and Europe, depending on months, whereas Africa utilized the least amount of budget. In addition, insects are observed to be consistently damaging to crops, while the other two vary per region.
Europe at the first graph started off in January-March period as the highest, with the value of nearly 800 million dollars, and afterwards falling dramatically across the graph, offering its first place for Australia, which, in turn, started rising considerably in April-June and finished at the peak of approximately 900 millions. In contrast, Africa preferred to limit its spending, with only the slight increase up until July-September, followed by a negligible decrease until the end of the graph.
Meanwhile, the graph of damage types shows that fires are most devastating in Australia, dominating all of the other types of damage having an approximately 850 thousands of hectares of damage. The least detrimental seems to be floods in Africa and Australia (100 and 200 thousands, respectively), though its effect is at its highest in Europe, also exceeding fires and insects in this region.
