Overall, the percentage of men who buy music albums are more than that of women in all three genres. While Pop and Rock music are more popular among younger British people, the older age group citizen prefers Classical music.
In terms of sex, the most popular music among males is pop, accounting just below 30 percent, whereas the figure for females is only 20 percent. This comparison is also mirrored in the proportion of people buying rock and classical music. The former accounts for around 28 percent for men and just under 20 percent for women, while the latter amounts for approximately 8 percent for males and just above 5 percent for females.
Regarding age, rock and pop music see quite a similar trend where the 25 to 34 age group has the largest proportion, accounting for around 32 percent, followed by those aged 16 to 24 which has around 30 percent. For the 35 to 44 age group, the figures for purchasing rock and pop music are almost identical with around 25 percent. However, people buying most calssical music are 45 years and over which the percentage of that stands at about 20 percent.
