The pie charts illustrate the distribution of UK visitors to Spain by age group in 1983 and 2003. Overall, the age compasition of visitors changed significantly over the two decades. The 34-54 age group remained the largest in both years, but its proportion declined by 2003. Meanwhile, older travelers(55+) and younger visitors(0-15 and 16-24 years) saw noticeable increases, while the 25-34 group shrank dramatically.
In 1983, the 34-54 age gruop made up 50% of all visitors, but this figure dropped to 35% by 2003. Despite this decline, it remained the largest segment. The 25-34 age group also saw a significant decrease, falling from 20% in 1983 to just 12% in 2003, indicating that this demographic traveled less to Spain over time.
By contrast, the proportion of visitors aged 55 and over grew considerably, rising from 16% to 26%, showing that Spain became increasingly popular among older travelers. In a similar fashion, a notable increase occurred in the 16-24 age group, which quadrupled from a mere 4% in 1983 to 15% in 2003. The youngest travelers (0-15 years) also experienced a slight increase, moving from 10% to 12%.
