The given bar chart demonstrates how different age groups in New Zealand allocate their free time to various popular leisure pursuits.
Overall, people generally spent more time listening to music than reading for pleasure. As age increased, the time spent on reading rose significantly, while the average minutes on listening to music slightly declined.
At the age of 15-24, the youth do not often spend time on reading activities (20%) . Then, the figure shows a slight increase to nearly 40% in the second age group (25-34). The next period of their life (35-44) shows the same proportion of reading and listening. Continuously, the share of people who engage in reading activities slightly increases to about 50%, then rises considerably to about 70% in the last age group (55+).
In contrast, the percentage of people listening to music is much higher among younger groups. 80% of those aged 15-24 enjoy this activity. However, the figure gradually drops in older age groups, falling to about 60% for those aged 35-44. This downward trend continues to the group age of 35-44, then significantly surges to the same figure with the group age of 25-34. The final group age shows nearly the same figure as group 15-24.
