The infographics below provide information about employment statistics for UK residents by English language proficiency in 2013.
There are three graphics categorized by English language knowledge. At the bottom of each pie chart, information is given about each gender’s employment percentage. There is one infographic about the most common occupations.
Firstly, the information provided in the infographics shows that most UK residents who have English as their main language were employed at 71.9%. Those who are proficient in English were employed at 65.4%. Less than half of the UK residents who were ‘non-proficient’ in English were employed.
Secondly, in every case, men were employed at a higher percentage than women. Men were employed at 68%-75.5%, while women’s percentages were between 34.3% and 68.3% for UK residents.
Overall, we can see that individuals who have English as their main language were employed more and were in either professional or technical occupations, while those proficient in English were in elementary and professional jobs. Those who are ‘non-proficient’ in English were in the elementary and skilled trades sectors. Knowledge of English was a necessary skill for employment for UK residents.
