The line graph illustrates the utilization of public transport across four leading cities over the span of 39 years.
Overall, all four major cities manifested similar upswings in the mass transit use over the specified timeline. Another striking feature is that Tokyo recorded the highest figure consistently, while Sydney, despite starting at the lowest point, experienced a significant rise.
As can be clearly seen from the graph, public transportation usage in Tokyo began at the highest point (nearly 25%) and witnessed an exponential escalation to about 55% over the next two decades. Similarly, New York and London saw notable rises, with both reaching approximately 40% in the same year. Meanwhile, Sydney’s figure also rose markedly by about 16% in that period.
From 2000 to 2019, Tokyo maintained its upward trend, eventually peaking at approxiamtely 80%. Notably, public transit usage in London converged with that of New York at about 44% in 2003, then ascended sharply to nealy 65% in 2019, surpassing New York, which finished at roughly 55%. Sydney, though initially lowest, growing rapidly after 2005 and reached 50% in the end of the period.
