The line chart depicts the proportion of teenagers categorized by gender and age doing enough exercise from 2008 to 2019 with the figure of the last year coming from a project.
As can be seen, there is only a downward trend, showing a significant decline in the amount of exercise kids do.
Generally, three groups boys 7-13, girls 7-14, girls 14-19 had compatible patterns. Initially, these groups experienced about 70 percent teenagers getting adequate exercises. However, the figure slightly decreased by 2012, which was then followed by a drop over the next 7 years. By the end of the period, the percentage of children getting enough exercises in these groups dropped to about one-third of the initial levels.
Similarly, the remaining group exhibited a downward trend. Although this group started with the highest proportion, about 85%, it went down by varying degrees. After a drop, the percentage of boys aged 14–19 engaging in sufficient exercise experienced a recovery, increasing towards the end of the period and stabilizing at 50%. This allowed them to maintain the highest position among all the groups by 2019.
