The give graph illustrates how the amount of fast food consumption in the UK changed during a 20-year period, from 1970 to 1990.
It is very clear from the overall trend that people started to eat more fast food. However, there was a shift in which type of fast food had been the most popular.
Firstly, the amount of pizza consumed in 1970 was more than hamburgers and fish and chips combined. It stood at 300 g per week and then decreased slightly, reaching around 210 g in 1985. After that, this number remained relatively unchanged until 1990.
In contrast, in 1970 people had eaten less than 50 g of hamburgers per week, over the course of the next 15 years this amount gradually rose, increasing up to just over 110 g. It reached its peak in 1990 at 290 g. Fish and chips, on the other hand, showed more rapid growth. It is showed that in 1970 people only consumed approximately 90 g per week, then this number grew steadily to 150 g per week. Finally, it has hit a high of 500 g in 1990.
