The line graph compares the consumption, in grams, of three types of fast food — hamburgers, fish and chips, and pizza — in Britain between 1970 and 1990.
Overall, consumption of both hamburgers and fish and chips rose considerably over the period, whereas pizza declined. Initially pizza was the most consumed item, but by 1990 fish and chips had become the leading choice.
In 1970 pizza consumption stood at about 300 grams, considerably higher than fish and chips, which were just under 100 grams, and hamburgers at roughly 40 grams. Pizza then experienced a steady decline, falling to around 200 grams by 1985 and showing a slight recovery to just above 200 grams by 1990.
By contrast, fish and chips rose moderately to approximately 150 grams by 1980 and then surged sharply, reaching about 500 grams in 1990. Hamburgers followed a similar pattern: a gradual increase to just under 100 grams in 1980, followed by a rapid rise to roughly 300 grams at the end of the period.
