The graph illustrates the cost of four types of bread for 800 grams in one European country, over the period between 2001-2007.
Overall, three types of bread witnessed an increase in cost, whereas wholemeal bread saw a dramatic fall. Notably, black bread became the most expensive type, while rye bread remained cheapest.
Black, white and rye breads saw a slight increase in cost since 2001. Black bread’s cost was around 1.8 euro. In 2002 it decreased to 1.6 euro, which was followed by fluctuations until 2005. Then it rose to approximately 2 euro in 2007. The cost of white bread increased from 0.8 cents to 1 euro in 2002. Despite decreasing from 1 to 0.9 euro over the period between 2002-2004, the cost of white bread increased dramatically to 1.5 by 2007. The rye bread fluctuated all over the period but with a slight increase from 0.5 to 0.6 cents.
Wholemeal bread experienced a dramatic fluctuation, decreasing to 0.8 cents. The cost of wholemeal bread was roughly 1.9 euro in 2001. Having decreased dramatically to 0.6 cents, the figure rose slightly to 1 euro between 2002-2003. Wholemeal bread’s cost remained stable until 2004, which was then followed by an increase to 1.5 euro in 2005. Finally it decreased to 0.8 cent.
