The given graph illustrates how much oil was produced and consumed in China from 1982 to 2006.
Overall, it can be seen that China witnessed an upward trend in both the production and consumption of oil over 24 years. In addition, oil consumption grew remarkably faster than its production during the period shown.
At the beginning of the period, the figures for both oil production and consumption were nearly the same, at around 2 million barrels per day. However, oil consumption remained stable at 2 million before increasing significantly to 4 million in 1994, oil production experienced a considerable rise to 3 million before staying unchanged at this data in the same year.
From 1994 onwards, oil production and consumption witnessed a slight increase to 4 million and over 3 million, respectively. In 2006, while oil production remained stagnant, and escalated to 3.5 million barrels, oil consumption increased enormously and reached a peak at 6 million. Another note-worthy feature is that the amount of oil consumption surged threefold between 1982 and 2006.
