The graph illustrates a comparison between the production rate and consumption rate of oil in China from 1982 to 2006. Overall, the consumption rate exceeded the production rate during the examined time period. Moreover, the figure for consumption rate in 2006 is the highest, while the lowest figure can be seen in 1982.
The production rate stayed relatively the same during the initial 8 years with over 2 million barrels produced per day. Similarly, statistics regarding daily production of oil became static between 1986 and 1990, after a climb to 3 million from 1982 to 1986. However, the daily consumption rate became larger than the produced amount during 1994.
During the final 12 years, the amount of daily consumed barrels increased sharply and rose from nearly 3.5 million barrels in 1994 to approximately 6.3 million barrels per day in 2006. On the other hand, the production rate did not follow the same pattern, and only witnessed a rise by a tiny margin of 0.5 million barrels finishing at the disapointing number of 3.5 million barrels produced per day.
