Overall, although, Festival remained first at the beginning of the period, it was overtaken by Pavilion throughout the survey. Festival remained relatively stable while Pier showed a significant growth in the final decade.
In terms of Pavilion, at the beginning of the period, it began the percentage of tourists with a negligible 24%. From 1980 onwards, it showed a dramatic increase to just over 50%. It then leveled off and declined considerably to exactly 35% by 2000. By 2010, Pavilion’s popularity declined slightly to just above 30%. In contrast, Pier fluctuated at around 11 between 1980 and 2000. It then witnessed a sharp increase to just above 20%. As a result, the gap between these two attractions narrowed considerably.
Regarding the two remaining attractions, the Art Gallery experienced a notable fall throughout the period. It started at around 23% in 1980 before rising steeply to above 35% in 1985. Until 1990, it accounted a substantial drop to just over 20%. After a small growth in 1995, it decreased gradually to around 8% by the end of the period. In 1980, Festival was first with exactly 30%. It then saw a gradual fall to 25% in 1995 before increasing slightly to around 28% till 2000. Ultimately, it remained static at around 28%.
