The line chart illustrates the proportion of tourists who have visited four different places in Scotland over a period of 30 years.
It is clear that while the percentage of people who visited zoos and castles went up, the opposite was true for aquariums and festivals. It is also notable that castles were Scotland’s most favored tourist attraction for most of the period.
In 1980, the figure for castle visitors was over 25%, while the zoos had 10%. Over the next 20 years, the percentage of tourists who chose to visit castles reached a peak at nearly 45%. In addition, the years 1995 to 2010 witnessed a gradual drop by 30%. By contrast, zoos fluctuated steadily from around 10% to 15% during the first 20 years, the proportion of zoo visitors then increased significantly to 20% for the next 10 years.
Regarding the remaining categories, aquariums almost hit the highest point of nearly 35% in 1985 and then witnessed a considerable decline at 10% in the coming years. Likewise, festivals used to be the most popular attraction in 1980 with less than a third and also experienced a slow drop at roughly 25% at the end of the period.
