The picture depicts how the percentage of basic necessities: food,entertainment,apparels,transportation and fuel changed in a western country from 1960 to 2000.Overall,the graph showed a significant decrease in proportion of food while, transport costs rose over a period of time.
In 1960,about 35% of total expenses were being spent on edibles which dropped down by 5% every decade reaching to almost 15% in 2000. Following that,around 20% was spent on leisure activities at the first which, declined to the half by 2000.
On the other hand in 1960, wearables and energy costs account for (10% and 5%) of spendings respectively. They went down to reach around 5% at the end of 20th century.
In contrast, in 2000,the commute costs roughly around one tenth of the total expenditure.However, it started to go up gradually and costed more than 15% of the expenses. In coclusion, all the routine life expenses decreased over time except transportation.
