Overall, there was a sharp increase in the number of British people obeying a vegetarian diet from 1960 to 1980. Afterwards, a steady decrease was experienced in the percentage of UK citizens applying a vegetarian diet nearly a decade. Lastly, the number of UK people following a vegetarian diet had a fluctuated pattern between the years 1990 and 2020.
Around 7% rise, which means a steady progress, was seen in the proportion of people obeying a vegetarian diet in the first ten years. After a decade, this growth continued to go up by 8% which reached a peak by 15% in vegetarian diet followers from 1960 to 1980.
In 1980, a dramatic drop started to occur in vegetarian diet with approximately 8% which went on 10 years. Although, there was a fluctuated pattern starting from 1990, the number of people applying a vegetarian diet declined to 5% in the year 2000.
From then to 2010, a gradual upward trend, from 5% to 10%, can be seen the number of British citizens obeying the diet. After 2010, the line showed a slight movement by 1% up to the year 2020.
