The line chart illustrates how many young people aged 23 or below went to the cinema in Russia to watch four types of movies (adventure, romance, horror, and sci-fi) throughout 8 years.
Overall, horror had a sharp increase becoming the most common type, despite it being one of the most unpopular genres in the beginning of the period. Similarly, adventure witnessed a steady rise. In contrast, sci-fi declined gradually, while romance remained stable and did not show any considerable changes over the years.
Examining the data more closely, the first half of the given time span of time shows that adventure saw a gradual upward trend from around 300 million of people in 2005 to 340 million of those in 2008. Conversely, sci-fi had a slight fall from almost 200 million in 2005 to sharply 150 million in 2008. Whereas, romance had an insignificant fluctuation over 4 years, starting with approximately 80 million and remaining with the same number of people in 2008, horror surged from around 120 million to 250 million.
In the second half of the period, adventure peaked at just under 400 million and remained stable until the end of the period. On the other hand, horror surpassed adventure and became the most liked genre with about 430 million in 2012. Sci-fi dropped to almost 100 million and romance became the least demanded type of movies, ending the period with about 50 millions.
