The line graph compares the average number of hours Ukrainian teenagers spent on four selected leisure activities per week between 2000 and 2020.
Overall, the amount of time spent on social media increased dramatically and became by far the most popular activity by the end of the period, whereas reading remained unchanged. TV experienced a substantial decline before stabilising, while sports followed a more moderate fluctuating pattern.
Social media recorded the most significant increase. Starting at approximately one hour per week in 2000, the figure rose steadily to around three hours in 2010 and five hours in 2015. It then increased dramatically, reaching approximately 11 hours per week in 2020. By contrast, the amount of time spent reading remained constant at around three hours throughout the entire period.
TV followed a downward trend, declining from eight hours per week in 2000 to six hours in 2010. The figure then fell sharply to approximately one hour in 2015, where it remained unchanged through 2020. Sports, meanwhile, showed a relatively moderate pattern. The amount of time spent on this activity increased from six hours in 2000 to a peak of seven hours in 2005 and 2010, before declining gradually to around four hours by 2020.
