Overall, it is apparent that the service sector maintained the dominant role in Australia’s economy over the years, whereas Agriculture consistently recorded the lowest among the five industries. In addition, the Services showed the largest market workforce in 2009.
Between 2005 and 2009, the Services field increased steadily from nearly 45% to 49%. In contrast, Manufacturing witnessed a slight decline by around 3% (from 14% to 11%), and Agriculture slowly decreased from roughly 8% to 5%. Meanwhile, the Mining sector and Construction recorded relatively higher proportions, starting at nearly 9% and approximately 10% and both increasing around under 10% and around 11%, respectively, in 2009.
In 2009, the Services field represented the largest share, accounting for 57.5%. Construction ranked in second sector stood at 13.1%, closely followed by Manufacturing at 12.9%. Additionally, Mining constituted 10.6%, which was nearly double that of Agriculture at 5.9%.
