The line graph illustrates the worldwide demand for polyester, cotton, cellulosic and wool from 1980 to 2015.
Overall, while wool bucked the trend, demand for polyester, cotton, and cellulosic experienced significant growth throughout the period. Although polyester did not begin with the highest share, it overtook other fibers and became the leading one by 2015.
In 1980, the demand for cotton was highest, just below 15 tons. Despite some fluctuations between 1983 and 2003, the overall trend was upward. The number continued to rise and reached a peak of 32 tons by 2015. In a similar pattern, polyester began with around 5 tons in 1980. This figure rose steadily to just nearly 32 tons in 1999. After a slight decrease in 2000, it increased sharply and attained the maximum approximately 69 tons in 2015, as a result surpassing all of them.
In contrast, cellulosic and wool exhibited different changes. Starting at 2 tons in 1980, the demand for cellulosic slightly declined till 1988, after which the figure experienced negligible growth and ended at around 10 tons by 2015. In 1980, wool had the smallest number among others, just below 2 tons. The amount went up marginally, reaching nearly 5 tons by 1988, before undergoing a slight decrease over the next four years. From 2002 onward the demand remained relatively stable, ending at around 1 ton by 2015. Оцени
