The chart illustrates how many kilometers people in five countries traveled by car from 1990 to 2010.
It can be observed that the distance traveled per car in the US and Britain witnessed upward trends while the reverse pattern could be observed in the remaining countries. Throughout the entire period, the US maintain is the top performed.
At the started of the period, the average distance per car in the US stood at 1700 kilometers, slightly surpassing the figure for Germany by 100 kilometers. This was followed by Britain and France, with respective figures being 1300 kilometers and 1000 kilometers. At the bottom of the list was in Japan, as people traveled 700 kilometers by car on average.
Afterwards, despite the slightly fluctuations, the average distance traveled per car recorded in the US and the Britain moderately increased to 1800 kilometers and just over 1400 kilometers, respectively, in the end of period, maintaining their positions at the forefront. Conversely, the distance per car in the Germany and France remained relatively stable initial 15 years from 1990 to 2005 when they slightly decrease to 1350 kilometers and 900 kilometers in 2010, respectively. Meanwhile, Japan’s distance by car fluctuated with a downward trend reaching a lowest of 350 kilometers in 2002 and concluding the period at 400 kilometers.
