Overall, the amount of male prisoners are way higher than female prisoners. Population of female prison has decreased compared to the male prison, which showed an upward trend.

Looking at the deatails, population of male prison remained constant through the years from 1911 until 1921. Then it reached its lowest point with ten thousand prisoners, while the population of female prison dramatically fell in the year 1941 to its lowest point with only 500 prisoners. Male prison after a rapid increase in the number of prisoners until 1961 , had a slight decline for ten years. In 1971 the male prison population had a sudden surge reaching approximately forty thousand prisoners. However, the female prison had a slight dip in the number of prisoners.
