The two maps illustrate the transformations that have taken place in the layout of Ryemouth village from 1995 to the present.
Overall, this village has significantly renovated over the given period, with the introduction of new facilities, at the expense of natural landscape and the fishing industry.
Looking first at the village’s northern part, the northwest area has witnessed the addition of new houses, with four to the left and six to the right of the main road. While the central area, housing four dwellings remains unchanged, there is a new road running to the west, accommodating two houses. In the northwest of the main road, the previous farmland adjacent to a forest park has been turned into a new golf court, and two tennis courts, respectively.
Shifting our attention to the south, a new parking area for cars has been constructed to the right of a hotel, which has existed since 1995. Directly across from this hotel and by the beach is a cafe, which was left untouched despite the wave of changes. Moving westward along the beach road, beyond the T-junction, the five previous shops have developed into restaurants. Opposite these restaurants are four modern apartments which have been erected, replacing the land of the old fish market. Finally, the fishing port has been demolished, reviving the beach to its pristine condition.
