The maps illustrate the alterations in a library between 1975 and the present. Overall, this library has undergone significant transformations and replacement to facilitate more seating areas and additional self-service amenities. Additionally, digital equipment has been introduced to meet the demand of the customers.
In 1975, the entrance was at the top middle of the plan, with magazines and a new books section being situated on its left and right, respectively. The open area on the left was dedicated to bookshelves and a study area with tables and chairs, while the one on the right was for a librarian’s book. Along the lower wall, another bookshelf was located in the lower left corner, whereas an area for children’s books was featured on its opposite side. Finally, a restroom could be found in the bottom middle.
In the current layout, computers have replaced magazines, indicating a shift towards online experience. Meanwhile, the area for new books has been converted into a door for the disabled and a self-check-in counter. The bookshelves in the left center have been divided into a new books section and two sofas, and the previous study area has been relocated to the librarian’s books, with new tables added. A new bookshelf was constructed along the lower right wall, and a new coffee machine has been introduced beside the left wall, whilst four categories, namely entrance, bookshelf, toilet, and children’s books section remained unchanged.
