The given maps illustrate the development of the Central Library between 2006 and 2026. Overall, it is evident that there were many changes, with several areas being replaced and new facilities being added.
In 2006, in the middle of the library, there were tables and chairs. On the north-east side, there were children’s books next to the adult non-fiction books. On the south-east side, there was an enquiry desk. Near the entrance, on the left-hand side, there was a reading room with newspapers and magazines. On the west side of the map, there was an adult fiction section. Finally, CDs, videos and computer games were located on the north-west side of the library.
In the present day, there were major changes. In the middle of the library, the tables and chairs were removed and made way for a seating area. On the north-east side, the children’s books were replaced by a lecture room, while the children’s section was moved to the west side. More furniture was also added to the north side, and a storytelling area was built there. On the west side, all the reference books were located, while on the opposite side there were the adult fiction section, an information desk, and self-service machines. On the right-hand side of the entrance, a café was added between the entrance and the computer room.
