The map and the chart below are illustrating the global willingness for eating insect products and the current price for food available on the market place.
The map clearly articulates Mexico having the highest willingness for eating insect products with a 71%, including Peru with a 58& willingness and is the second highest, and Thailand was the third highest with a 56% willingness. Whereas Brazil, China, and Africa where in the middle for their willingness towards insect products, and they have a 45%, 44%, and 39%. On the other hand, the UK, Australia, the US, Russia, India, Spain, which are large countries had less than a 40%, each having a range of 30-35% and are leaning towards unwillingness. Moreover, the country with the least willingness is Japan with a 21%.
In the chart, it shows that the most expensive types of food are types of small insects, with the weaver ant having the highest price per kg and it was 10.65 USD. All other insects such as male and female water bugs, caterpillars, bombay locust, weevils, crickets, and pupae were around 2-10 USD per kg. Other food types such as meats had an average about 1-3 USD per kg, and gultinous rice, also was low in price with 0.82 USD per kg.
