The given maps illustrate the way in which the village of Ryemouth has changed for residential and recreational purposes between 1995 and the present.
Looking at the illustrations, it is immediately evident that while some original features have remained intact, many others have either disappeared or been replaced. Additionally, over the period, the village has undergone several major transformations, the most noticeable of which is the conversion of farmland and a public park into leisure and residential facilities.
Regarding features that remained unchanged, the hotel in the central area and the coffee shop near the seafront have stayed the same. Housing in the northwest corner also remained solid. By contrast, a number of facilities disappeared: the sport area to the southwest and the fish market by the coast were both removed. The farmland in the northeast was cleared, and the public park in the middle of the village no longer exists. In addition, fishing boats operating along the coast in 1995 have been replaced.
By the present day, new facilities have been introduced. A golf course and tennis courts were constructed on the former farmland in the northeast, while the old park area made way for a group of holiday homes and a car park. To the west, the former sports ground was replaced by a restaurant, and new apartments were erected along the seafront where the fish market once stood.
