The maps demonstrate a coal mining site before and after redevelopment.
Overall, the whole area has been converted from a working mine to a leisure-oriented site. Most of the original facilities have been removed and replaced with amenities designed for visitors. Additionally, the car park has remained completely unchanged and a new pathway has been introduced through the central parts of the area.
Before redevelopment, the site functioned as a working mine, with a lorry park located in the bottom middle part of the map and a car park on the other side. The top central part was occupied by the entrance for underground mine for workers, adjacent to which was the medical room, while office and staff changing room were located opposite those buildings. The right wing of the place was occupied by waste tips.
Since then , the site has been transformed into a visitor’s attraction. The entrance for underground mine has remained unchanged, but now it is intended for visitors. Where the lorry park stood, there is now a souvenir shop, with a cafe nearby, which replaced the medical room. Similarly, office and staff changing room have gone and in their place is now a big museum. The waste tips have been replaced with a couple of recreational sites, including a picnic area, a children’s play area, and a digger driving track. Additionally, a new pathway has been constructed, which runs through the main facilities. However, throughout the redevelopment, the car park has remained completely untouched.
