The two maps illustrate how the town of Harborne developed between 1936 and 2007.
Overall,Harorne experinced significant modernization durin this period. Most of the old shops and natural areas were replaced by modern facilities, including a shopping centre, a supermarket, and a golf cource.
In 1936, the town was realtively small and surrounded by natural feastures such as trees in the north-west, a river flowing through the centre, and farmaland to the east. The town centre contained a few local shops, including a post office, a flower shop, sweet shop, a butcher’s, a bank, and a libary. In the south, there were governent offices and cycle parth.
By 2007, Hrborne had changed dramatically. The number of trees had decreased to just once, and the farmland and river were replaced by a residential area. The sweer shop butcher,s, and flower shop disappeared, giving way to a large shoppping centre and a supermarket. The government offices in the south were convertrd into a museum, while a golf courrse was built nearby. The cycle parth was also replaced by a road, and a travel agnency appeared next to the bank and librry.
In summary, over the 71-year period, Harborne transformed from a small rural town into a more developed and commercialised urban area.
