The diagrams depict the transformation of Poulton Town over 31 years, starting from 1990.
Overall, it is evident that the town witnessed dramatic changes over the period, the most noticeable of which was the demolition of all industrial facilities, the change of residential accommodation, and the development of recreational and commercial facilities.
Regarding the North side of the former Bayley Street, the most considerable change in the area was the presence of mansions that were once terraced houses in 1990. Subsequently, the terraced houses in the west of the picture were replaced with flats erected in 2021. Additionally, the alteration of recreational facilities included parks and children’s play areas.
From 1990 to 2021, the factory, railway workers’ cottages, and railway lines were flattened to make space for the renovation of shops. The number of shops increased from one shop to three shops in the southeast corner, and New Lane was constructed to allow locals to access these stores. Additionally, the coffee shop and the laundry were relocated slightly, and a new road connected these establishments to the main street.
