The map offers insights into the town of Lakeside’s transformation at the beginning of the 21st Century.
It is clear that alterations took place all over the maps. However, the most striking features from the illustration are the expansion of industrial complex and the loss of residential area.
As far as the initial map is concerned, in 2000, there was a river that ran through the town, which divided the area into two equal parts. On the left, the Old Town was situated between a derelict warehouse and a school. The west of the lake included an art centre, which was surrounded by two residential areas. On the opposite side, an industrial complex was located adjacent to the residential zone to the south.
After the interval of 9 years, the Lakeside was transformed into a much more modern city with the development of a number of urban amenities. A noticeable evolution is that the lake was replaced by the pond. On the north west, the derelict houses and Old Town were knocked down and modernised by the central area, which included car park, offices, university adjacent to the same residential area and school. The south-west zone which originally contained the art centre and residential area were urbanised by the entertainment facilities including cinema and shopping centre. On the right-hand side, the residential area was demolished to make way for the enlargement of the industrial complex.
