The maps illustrate how the town of Newport has been transformed from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, the town experienced significant urbanisation. The major developments include the reduction of forested areas in the central and southern parts to make way for new educational, residential, and commercial buildings, alongside a substantial expansion of both the road and railway networks across the northern and southern part of the town, respectively.
In the northern part of the town, the hospital remained in the same location, but with a small reorganisation of its parking area. To the west of the hospital, the former school was demolished and replaced by a larger shopping centre. Meanwhile, the lake in the northeast stayed untouched, although fewer trees remained around it, and a new road now runs past the shopping centre, hospital, and the lake.
The central and southern areas underwent more radical transformations. The large forest that previously dominated the central area was entirely cleared to make way for a sports ground and a university in the west, and a factory and apartments in the east. Furthermore, the short railway line in the south was extended across the entire map, and a new railway station was built alongside it.
