The maps compare the layout of Newport in 1980 with 2010.
Overall, the town underwent substantial development, with various new facilities being introduced, as well as additional transportation infrastructure. The most notable changes were the replacement of green areas with buildings, while a main road in the south and several natural features on the north eastern region had been preserved.
In 1980, the west side of the town contained primarily the trees which were distributed in the middle and south. A school and a hospital took the place of the northern site, with a parking area locating just to the south of the hospital. Housing, trees, and a lake occupied the eastern area of the town, with a station and a short railway line lying to south of this region.
By 2010, the school was replaced by a shopping centre. While the hospital remained in place, the parking area was downsized and relocated next to the hospital. A new main road had been constructed to the south of these buildings, running from west to east. The green areas in the middle site were replaced by a sports ground and a university. The station had been moved to the west side of the town, with the railway line being extended along the former main road from west to east. While the trees and the lake in the northeast had been retained, housing was replaced by an apartment and a factory.
